Instructor: Mr. Jim Hathaway (http://www.brushink.com)

Mr. Hathaway studied drawing and painting at the State University of New York, Brooklyn College, and The Art Student's League of New York. He came to Japan in 1989 and studied ink painting. He lives, paints, and teaches in Tokyo. You may have seen him on Japanese TV, or read his essays in a magazine or in his book, Shitamachi Gaijin.

 
Fees: All the prices include consumption tax.

•　Registration Fee: 5,000 yen/person (only once at the beginning of the enrollment)

•　Tuition Fee: The tuition fee will be decided depending on the number of students enrolled before the course starts. The more students join, the less the fee will be. The fee varies as follows:
Six-to-nine-student class: 42,000 yen/person (1 lesson = 4,000 yen + tax)
Ten-to twelve-student class: 38,850 yen/person (1 lesson = 3,700 yen + tax)

•　Material Expense *: Approximately 3,000 yen/person (only once at the beginning of the enrollment)


* This includes brushes, 'suzuri' (inkstone), 'shitajiki' (felt underpad), dishes, 'bunchin' (paperweight), and papers. If you already have these or would like to purchase by yourself, you don't need to pay for them.

Application Deadline: September 17, 2008 (You will be able to join the course if there is vacancy, even after the course has started.)

Payment: We will inform students of the tuition fee once the size of the class has been determined, and payment should be made through bank transfer no later than September 22, 2008. Once the payment has been made, the fee will not be refunded. However, if you know before the payment deadline that you will miss some lessons, please consult.

Other: We are planning to hold an exhibition in December to share with the public the world of sumie created by our students.

講師： アメリカ人墨絵画家　ジム・ハサウェイ先生 (http://www.brushink.com)
ニューヨーク州立大学ブルックリン校等で絵画を学んだ後、１９８９年に来日し、墨絵と出合う。東京下町在住で、東京を舞台に画家活動を続ける中、教鞭も取る。テレビ出演、雑誌へのエッセイ投稿、マスコミからの取材も多数。著書に「下町の外人さん」がある。

先生からのメッセージ：


　「筆が画家だけのものではないことは、日本ではずっと昔から知られていることです。筆の使い方を学ぶということは、右脳と左脳、頭と心、手と目を呼応させるという、視覚的思考法の秘訣を学ぶことでもあり、この秘訣を人生の諸場面で応用することで、色々なことができるようになると思います／（この秘訣は人生の色々な場面で応用できると思います）。
　日本の墨、筆、それに和紙は、どれも至極繊細にできているため、描く者は神経を集中させることが求められるものです。これらを使いこなせるようになるのには、練習が要りますが、一つ一つ積み上げながら、新しい表現の世界を体験する、そのお手伝いができたらと思います。」

料金（以下全て消費税を含みます。）：

（１） 登録料：　５，０００円（初回に一度だけ）
（２） 受講料：　受講料は、申し込み時に受講者数が何人になるかで決定させていただきます。以下のとおり、受講者数が増えれば、一人の払う受講料は安くなります。
• ６人から９人まで：　１人４２，０００円（１レッスン＝４，０００円＋税）
•１０人から１２人：　１人３８，８５０円（１レッスン＝３，７００円＋税）
（３） 道具代*：　約３，０００円（初回に一度だけ）


*：道具代には、筆、硯、下敷き、小皿、文鎮、紙が含まれます。既にお持ちの方や御自身で購入されたい方は、この道具代をお支払いになる必要はありません。

申し込み締め切り： ９月１７日（水）（但し、コース開始後も人数的に問題がない場合は、御参加いただけます。）

お支払い方法： 受講者数の決定を受けて、お申し込みくださった方々にお支払いいただく料金をお知らせ致しますので、９月２２日（月）までに銀行振込にてお支払いをお願い致します。一度お支払いいただいた料金は、返金致し兼ねますが、お支払い期限までに出られない日程が既におわかりの場合は、別途御相談ください。
